Remembrance Sunday

November 11th 2018

The Benefice Church service will be at Croydon Church at 11.00am, preceded by a short ceremony at the War Memorial in Croydon staring at 10.50am.

The Centenary of the end of the First World War will be commemorated in The Chequers on Sunday 11th November, with readings from well known war poems and soldiers’ letters and a roll call of the Orwell men who died in the War.  We will conclude with some popular 1914/18 songs and samples of ‘Trench Cake’! Be there at 4.00pm for a 4.15pm start.

Following on from the event at The Chequers the beacon, situated at the top of the Clunch Pit, will be lit as part of the WW1 Beacons of Light at 7pm.  All are welcome to attend to remember.

The bells in Orwell will also ring out three times during the day.
